Strategic Partner- Public Policy
I serve as the Public Policy Director for the Rafferty Group, where I leverage my experience in strategic communications, coalition-building and issue advocacy to assist clients in a variety of industries, including healthcare, affordable housing, and early care and education.
Prior to joining the Rafferty Group, I managed tailored public affairs campaigns and developed strategic communications and messaging for a national public affairs firm. I assisted clients with internal and external communications and messaging and implemented issue advocacy campaigns at the grasstops and grassroots level, engaging stakeholders to drive results for my clients.
My previous experience includes coordinating partnership programs in international development and global health for non-government organizations. My work included managing USAID-funded health care programs with the American International Health Alliance (AIHA). While at AIHA, I facilitated collaboration between AIHA and WHO to open the first school of public health in the Former Soviet Union. I was also responsible for coordinating AIHA’s annual partnership conferences (held in Washington, DC or Budapest, Hungary), overseeing the logistics, interpretation and translation, and general planning for over 500 persons attending from over a dozen different countries. I also assisted in agriculture reform initiatives in the Former Soviet Union, primarily in the Lake Baikal region of Siberia.
In my early years, I worked for a congressional campaign, served as a field organizer for the Iowa Democratic Party in the former Iowa 6th Congressional district, and was a lobbyist for a student advocacy organization.
I earned my M.A. from Georgetown University in Russian & East European Studies, graduating with distinction from the Walsh School of Foreign Service. I also have my B.A. in Russian language from the University of Iowa.
I’m a proud native Iowan, originally from eastern Iowa. I’ve lived in West Des Moines for nearly 20 years, following my time abroad and living in Washington, DC. An active member of my community, I especially like to volunteer on projects serving the homeless and hungry, including the Urban Bicycle Food Ministry and St. Joe’s Family Emergency Shelter. When not working, I enjoy being outdoors, either biking, hiking, or camping and spending time with family and friends.
