Manager of Government Affairs
Starting at a young age, I had a passion for political activism and public policy. Since, I have worked hard to diversify my experiences to best advocate for positive policy change. From working campaigns at every level, enacting extensive public affairs campaigns across the Midwest, supporting major financial institutions and nonprofits with communications and public relations campaigns, and passing legislation and amending administrative code, I have successfully delivered positive outcomes for clients and employers alike.
Growing up in Byron, MN, near Rochester, I had the opportunity to engage in the political sphere when I advocated for the creation of the student school board position in the Byron Public Schools. I helped pass two local school referendums to support the excellent academic history in our community. These experiences then led me to Simpson College in Indianola, IA where I was selected as a Public Policy Fellow at the John C. Culver Public Policy Center. I was highly engaged during my time at Simpson and graduated with the highest academic honor with majors in Political Science and International Relations and a minor in Religious Studies.
I started working on local campaigns during my teen years in Minnesota and this flourished upon my arrival in Iowa. Local county supervisor, statehouse, U.S. Congress and Senate, and even presidential campaigns In Iowa drew me in. I also had the opportunity to be fully integrated into the Iowa political process by working for a committee chairman in the Iowa House of Representatives for two state legislative sessions.
Following graduation from Simpson, I worked in management in the financial services sector and then transitioned to the public affairs and public relations arena. This work included leading extensive public affairs issue campaigns across the Midwest and country influencing both state and federal policymakers. I also had the opportunity to execute successful communications and public relations campaigns for large companies and nonprofit organizations. These experiences have all culminated in my successful ability to execute plans to introduce, pass, block, or amend legislation at the Iowa Statehouse for clients and build relationships with lawmakers and stakeholders daily. I have also completed my graduate work at the University of Northern Iowa where I received a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and a Graduate Certificate in Public Administration.
Aside from my work experiences, I am actively involved in my church community, local political activism, the Altoona Area Young Professionals, and serve as the President of the John C. Culver Public Policy Center Alumni Association. I enjoy reading, Netflix binges, grabbing a bite to eat and a beer at local establishments, and spending time and traveling with my wife.
